INDUSTRY: Media Jobs Getting Squeezed

By Chris Shepherd

U.S. media employment is shrinking.

Jobs in media dipped to a 15-year low in December 2007, with 886,900 people employed in some type of media, reports Advertising Age. Much of the drop is due to the declining size of news rooms at newspaper companies. Two people walk by The Chicago Tribune office. The Tribune says it will cut 100 jobs by the end of March. Advertising and marketing agencies report an increase of jobs. Furthermore, more and more media jobs are online. There was a 13.4 percent increase of employment in 2007.

Television, newspapers, and radio cut back in staff in 2007.
